Bring Your Faith To The Table

Cooking and baking have always been an integral part of religious celebrations. With the approach of a major religious holiday or event, families begin to plan special meals and treats to commemorate the occasion. Christmas, one of the major Christian religious holidays, is almost here, and if you are looking for ideas to incorporate religious symbols into your cake decorations, you will find some useful information in this article. You can purchase (or make) many different edible Christian motifs and bakery stores are full of cake decorating products you can choose from to embellish your cakes and cookies with religious designs and figures.

One of the easiest methods to incorporate religious motifs to cake decoration is to use food coloring with icing or frosting to create symbolic designs. Using the traditional red, white and green colors for Christmas cupcake icing produces beautiful results, for instance. Another option is to use edible Christmas cupcake toppers. This is a wonderfully simple method for decorating cupcakes, which the entire family, including the children, can enjoy doing together.

Some of the popular Christian motifs that can be eaten and enjoyed include doves, which symbolize peace and faith; a cross representing acceptance of Christianity; the Bible, lambs, fish and more. Placing these edible symbols of faith against a background of white frosting makes them stand out and cakes decorated like this can look stunning. Such cakes can be used for all kinds of religious and other special occasions. For example, a cross and a bible could be placed to excellent effect on a cake that is meant to celebrate a baptism or you could decorate a pink or blue frosted cake with sugar doves for a christening cake. Use sprinkles, chocolate chips or small pieces of candy to embellish your designs.

You could also be more imaginative and look for scenes from the Bible, for instance, to recreate on top of your cakes. A Nativity scene with store-bought or handmade sugar animals and caramelized ‘straw’ will enchant everyone at the table. There are several products available such as edible images and sugar shapes in the form of religious symbols, and you can use these on your cakes to create some impressive masterpieces without too much effort.

Easter is another Christian holiday that many people celebrate using cakes, cupcakes and cookies. You’ll have no trouble at all finding appropriate religious Easter cake decoration ideas. These range from miniature sugar Easter eggs, used alone or with a ‘nest’ made of chocolate shavings, to various Easter bunny sizes, forms and designs (simple images piped with frosting or molded figures made of fondant), to Easter chick decorations, and much more. Yellow, white, pink and green are appropriate frosting colors for Easter. For a children’s Easter party, try making cupcakes shaped like the Easter bunny using different size marshmallows for the head and body. Those of you who don’t have the time to make their own cake decorations can have fun choosing from the wide array of readymade Christian religious cake decorations available both in bakery stores and online.
