From the Cairo’s Museum to the Giza’s pyramids to the Luxor’s temple, Egypt is a country of some marvelous attractions. If you are a woman and have no partner with you, then there is no reason not to go solo traveling. These days women are pretty outgoing and do not mind backpacking to offshore destinations all on their own.
But a woman surely is a lot more vulnerable to general crime. So, here are some tips which are recommended for women heading for Egyptian tours:
i. Egypt, honestly, is not the safest country in the world. It is, by no means, a thriving den of crime. But it is not as safe as you would like it to be. There are some areas which are a bit crime-prone and not totally safe for a woman to travel alone. So, the first basic tip would be to stick to the top attractions and to the popular cities. You may be an ardent explorer, but if you are alone and if you are a girl, then do not straddle over to less frequented towns.
ii. Do not mingle too much with strangers. Yes, you have every right to interact with locals. But you should know where to draw the line. Do not accept free accommodations or meals from people whom you have just met! It would be quite insensible on your part, since that person, no matter how friendly he appears, may be a stalker or a womanizer.
iii. Do not accept drinks or meals from strangers especially if you have no clue about the source of those items. Criminals often lure gullible foreigners into eating or drinking stuffs which are drugged.
iv. As a woman, you may feel a tad insecure from within. But you must not let your inner turmoil surface on your face. Walk around confidently and with a valor. Do not give the impression that you are scared of your surroundings. Yes, do not do anything unnecessary, but also do not let others take you as a woman who is feeling out of place.
v. Though, Egyptian tours are quite safe for general tourists, you may get an opportunity wherein you might be physically abused or harassed. Always guard your personal space fiercely. In case, somebody tries to intrude, then you should not chicken out! Protest, rebuke or even call for cops!
vi. Always make sure to take accommodation in a hotel which is reputed. It would be silly of you to take up lodging at a cheap and little known place just for the sake of saving a few bucks. If the last thing you need is safety, then a good 5-star hotel is what you need to opt for.
