The Ford Focus is a small family car manufactured by Ford first in Europe starting July 1998, then worldwide starting February 2000 (with its own model for North America in production until late 2010). A second generation launched in Europe in January 2005, received styling and engineering updates in January 2008, and is marketed globally outside North and South America. The third generation model will be sold globally upon its launch, first in Europe (late 2010) then in the Americas (early 2011).
In 2012, Ford will offer a new performance-oriented Focus ST. It will be introduced at the 2010 Paris Motor Show, the preview being displayed at the Geneva motor Show on January 2010. The exciting new next-generation Ford Focus range was the star attraction in Ford Motor Company’s display at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show. Unveiled as a world car at the 2010 North American International Auto Show, the new Ford Focus ST was easily one of the biggest launches in Detroit too.
The ST features a new, more aggressive exterior design, including a redesigned front bumper with larger air intakes and grille, larger rear wing, wider side sills, center exit exhaust, and alloy wheels. Inside, the car receives a trio of additional gauges mounted in the dashboard, faux-carbon fiber trim, and sport seats with body colored inserts and stitching. The ST will use a 247 hp (184 kW) version of the 2.0L EcoBoost engine, a gain of 25 hp above the current Focus ST with a 2.5L 5-cylinder engine.
The formal launch of the full production-ready Focus range is highly significant for Ford, as it signals the introduction of the first truly global product developed under the Company’s ONE Ford strategy.
The Focus is Ford’s most significant car range globally. Developed at Ford’s global centre of excellence for Small and Medium Cars in Germany for sale in over 120 markets worldwide, the next-generation model is the most important Focus yet and is created from Ford Motor Company’s new global C segment platform with up to 80 per cent parts commonality around the world. This platform will underpin at least ten vehicles globally and account for two million units of annual production by 2012.
At the 2010 Geneva Motor Show, Ford Motor Company’s group vice president for Global Product Development, Derrick Kuzak, promised that an exciting new performance version of the next generation Ford Focus was in development.
At Paris, Ford is delivering on that promise by revealing an early preview model of the exciting next-generation Ford Focus ST. Targeted for launch in all global markets from early 2012, the all-new Ford Focus ST will be Ford’s first high-performance model developed under its global Performance Vehicles strategy.
The new range-topping Focus – which features a unique 250PS version of the new 2.0-litre, four-cylinder Ford EcoBoost engine – will be completely true to Ford’s ST heritage, offering driving enthusiasts an intoxicating cocktail of exhilarating performance and handling accompanied by an addictive sound. Enthusiasts found it striking and sporty and there’s for sure a few Korean influences in the exterior, with shades of Kia Ceed in the car’s nose for instance. It’s nonetheless a captivating design, with especially striking rear lamps shaped like a runny egg melting down the Focus’s flanks. The front end, too, is influenced by Fiesta but strikes out the next iteration of Ford’s family face.
Overall, the new Ford Focus ST will be a success for sure, which people already previewed at the Geneva Motor Show 2010.
