Treat Your Acne at Home

A majority of people suffer from acne. While most people only have to put up with it during their teenage years, because of the increase in testosterone production during puberty, some people are also plagued with acne well into their adult lives.

Acne can be caused by a number of factors. Some people are prone to acne breakouts due to genetics, while others get acne breakouts because something is causing their skin to get inflamed or irritated. Stress is also a factor in acne breakouts as is your diet. While chocolate is not known to cause breakouts, foods that have a high glycemic count are.

There are many ways you can treat acne, but the first thing you should try is home treatments. Many facial masks and pastes made at home from products found in your pantry can help reduce your acne.

The first thing you should try and do is look at the foods you eat and try and reduce the number of high glycemic load foods you ingest. These can cause your insulin levels to rise, leading to breakouts.

Cinnamon is a common ingredient in many homemade facemasks. You can mix it in honey and apply it to your face before you sleep at night and wash it off in the morning with warm water. This should reduce your acne over a period of two weeks. You can also mix equal parts cinnamon and lemon juice and apply it for fifteen minutes to your face before washing it off. Other remedies with citrus foods include taking the peel of an orange and grinding it into a paste with some water. Just be careful that you don’t use citrus foods on your skin if you have sensitive skin as that can cause irritation.

If you already have pimples, you can rub garlic on and around them and it should reduce their swelling. Papaya juice is also useful in reducing the size of a pimple that is already visible. Tomato pulp can be left on for one hour to reduce redness on and around pimples.

Another great way to reduce pimples is by frequently treating your skin at home. First, open your pores up by taking a hot shower for fifteen minutes or applying a hot damp washcloth on your face for ten minutes. After your pores are open, use a good quality cold cream or non-soap face wash to clean your pores out. Do not use soap since this will dry your skin and encourage more oil production in your pores. Next take some aspirin, crush it into a powder and mix it into half a cup of water. Apply it to your face with a cotton ball. Wash your face fifteen minutes later and let you skin dry naturally.

If you are prone to acne breakouts, don’t touch your skin too much and make sure you get at least fifteen minutes of sunshine directly on your face. The first will reduce the amount of bacteria on your skin, and the second will kill most bacteria on your skin that can cause pimples.
