Teenagers mostly see acne as another gross part of life. In spite of how embarrassing having a face full of zits can be, there is some comfort in knowing that everyone else in school is dealing with acne as well. As adults we are supposed to have grown out of the frequent breakouts of our puberty years. This is why so many of us are so embarrassed by the occasional breakout or zit. Nothing makes us relive our teenage years like waking up to a face that has a few spots and bumps. Adult acne is often very painful, which is another reason so many adults dread breaking out. Use these tips to help you fight your acne whether you are still in high school or are all grown up.
Finding a good cleanser is the first step to fighting acne. It should go without saying that your cleanser should not have an oily base, but that is not the only thing you need to look at when you shop for your cleanser. Salicylic acid is one. People who have to deal with really bad acne will use the salicylic acid content as their primary search criteria. In a “normal” cleanser the salicylic acid is only strong enough to kill basic bacteria and to clean your pores out. As you age your skin will get thinner and more sensitive so you might eventually need to use salicylic acid only for the occasional spot treatment.
Your hands should not touch your face if you can help it. The majority of the population doesn’t realize just how much time they spend touching their faces every day. Letting your face rest in your hands is just one way to clog your pores. Think about this. Touching your face after you touch an object is sort of like resting your face on the object that you touched. It is really easy to clog your pores with the oil on your hands when your hands serve as a resting spot for your face. This is also one of the reasons colds are so easily transmitted: you touch something that has germs on it and later brush your face with your hands which gives those germs easy access to your nose, mouth and eyes–prime entry portals! So keep your hands off of your face.
Keeping your hands clean is a must if you can’t make yourself stop touching your face. Keep the zits away by washing your hands a lot throughout every day.
If you do wake up to an acne flare up, do not let yourself pick at your face! Acne should not ever be subject to picking or squeezing. You never want to mess with your acne. Cleaning your face-even when you are broken out-is perfectly acceptable but keep those fingers off of your acne the rest of the time! Yes they will take a few days to heal naturally. What would you like to see the most? A week or so with a breakout or a lifetime with scars from it? The best way to treat an acne breakout is also the most basic way to treat an acne breakout: wash your face and don’t pick at your zits. Once in a while the basic cleanser is not enough and you need to use a product that is a little bit harsher. No matter what your age might be, there is a product on the market that will help you cure your breakouts.
