What Procedures Can Be Done to Get Rid of a Wrinkled Face?

While there are many creams and lotions that can improve a wrinkled face, a lot of people are opting for cosmetic procedures. The main reason is that the results last longer. One such procedure is called a chemical peel. Depending on the desired results, there are three kinds of peels. These are superficial, medium and deep.

A superficial peel is exactly what its name implies. It is a light peel that does not penetrate the skin too deeply. These are usually done with AHA (alpha hydroxyl acid) but sometimes TCA (trichloroacetic acid) is used. Because the procedure only takes about 15 minutes, this type of peel is often referred to as a ‘lunch hour peel’.

A medium peel is usually done with TCA. Although this will not help with deep wrinkles, it can significantly improve pigmentation problems and fine wrinkles. The procedure takes about an hour.

The patient might experience minor stinging or burning during this treatment. After a week, the skin will start cracking and peeling and a fresh new layer will surface. The new skin will probably be very red for two weeks. The patient might require several additional treatments to achieve the best results.

A deep chemical peel is also called a phenol peel. Because this is the most intensive of all peels, recovery takes longer and the pain is more intense. However, a deep peel gives the best results. A full-face peel can take up to two hours. After the procedure, patients are advised to have someone care for them for at least two days. Severe swelling of the eyes is common.

In addition to chemical peels, there are two other very effective treatments for wrinkles. These are dermabrasion and laser resurfacing. Dermabrasion involves scraping of the skin’s outer layers by a cosmetic surgeon. After recovery, the skin has a very smooth texture and wrinkles are eliminated.

Laser resurfacing is also called a laser peel. During this procedure, a CO2 (carbon dioxide) laser removes wrinkles and damaged areas of the skin. This is carefully done layer by layer. Usually, this procedure is done on the face but it can also be performed on other parts of the body.

This treatment can definitely make a significant improvement to a wrinkled face. It is especially useful to eliminate, or significantly reduce, wrinkling around the mouth or eyes. The cosmetic surgeon will use the laser to target only the wrinkled areas without affecting other parts of the face.
