Why More People Venture To The Last Frontier On Earth

Before making my move, I walked down the gangway of the cruise ship with caution and waited for a break in the swelling waves. I settled into a small rubber boat with one quick stride. Just after a few minutes, our small group of explorers bounced through amazing objects, like a napping seal and chunks of brilliant blue ice. My boat stops finally at a rocky shore so I put my legs above the zodiac to get to the northern area of the Antarctic Peninsula.

An astounding sight coupled with a stinging pungent smell welcomed me as I strode along blocks of ice along the beach. Adelie penguins, hundreds of them, waddled right in front of me. Beyond a craggy slope their numbers slope, around how far I can see with my naked eyes. This prime landing to this far off continent proves to be immensely rewarding and even this cruise for two days which had to take the route of the infamously rough seas from Ushuaia, Argentina is completely remarkable. This crystalline wilderness situated at the Earth’s bottom has now increasingly become attractive to tourists worldwide.

Just last year, 26,000 visitors poured in and the number rises each year. Discussions on global sneaky penguins are able to break swirling blue patterns. During December days of the austral summer, the weather gets surprisingly pleasant here in the continent know to be the coldest in the whole world. Going beyond freezing point, temperatures even reach up to 40s while on the realm of the peninsula. Trips are expected to run from November to March.

Going on a sea adventure for around 11 days, this 100 meter ice strengthened ship body is full with passengers most of the time, carrying about a hundred or more of them. The comfortable ship is not fancy at all. People are privileged to use their library and auditorium and frequent the ship’s bar and lounge. On board tiny yachts, many people travel to Antarctica. We shall leave the port come Friday evening. Come the next day, we witness the glorious flight of many albatrosses along with other species of birds.

In their aim to pass time while cruising the sea, tour guides inject lectures by different experts from a marine biologist, geologist, bird expert, historian and an artist that teaches them how to draw and paint penguins and icebergs. During the tour, global warming lectures were not present even as this was often a topic of discussion.

During the trip, loads of action occurred primarily in the nearby islands and during landings on the continent. Seeing an avalanche in action or perhaps listening to the boisterous sound produced by a calving iceberg will never be forgotten. But from the ship’s decks, much can still be seen. Tourists are able to make the most out of the trip thanks to short hours of darkness.

As you go on the ship deck to behold the wind carved icebergs shimmering in hues of blue or perhaps white, float past your cruise ship, be certain to be dressed appropriately so that you will stay warm, away from the hassles strong winds bring. It was breathtaking to pass through pristine landscapes of tall mountains bejeweled with glaciers. Many people can see whales rise up during some times. During long lasting sunsets, the sky is painted with fierce red and mellow orange.

One passenger who was old got very sick and had to be evacuated so we all got alarmed as we returned on board the ship. This means we will make a long detour overnight and go back to the South Shetland Islands to get to an airstrip. These instances, evacuation that entail tens of thousands of dollars, call for the wise move of getting medical evacuation insurance before embarking on a journey.

Once the man got his medical evacuation and was sent to Chile, we sent ourselves to where newly Gentoo penguins were being fed, in the Island of Ardley. A penguin feeds its young by delicately taking the head of the chick into its mouth and regurgitates a krill into its young’s mouth, and a slimy strand from beak to beak is left.
